Last week my friend Jacqueline asks me if I’ve ever played Apples to Apples with my kids. I haven’t. I haven’t even heard of Apples to Apples and she goes on to tell me how much fun her boys and her had playing it. It sounds like something we would enjoy too. I value Jacqueline’s advice and decide to give it a try.
If you’re like me and are clueless as to what Apples to Apples is, let me fill you in. Apples to Apples is promoted “as the hilarious comparison game.” It's my understanding that Apples to Apples is one of the fastest growing party games in America. A wild card and party game that provides instant fun for four to ten players. It’s as easy as “comparing apples to apples” - just open the box, deal the cards, and you’re ready to play. Select the card (red) from your hand that you think is best described by a card (green) played by the judge. If the judge picks your card, you win that round. Everyone gets a chance to be the judge. Each round is filled with surprising and outrageous comparisons from a wide range of people, places, things, and events. Fast moving and simple, Apples to Apples is perfect for any get-together with family and friends. It is essentially a word matching by means of meaning sort of game, where in most cases you have to opt for the best possible option, which can out to be quite funny at times.
Friday, Garrett and I made a trip to the store to pick up Apples to Apples and made a plan to have a family fun night playing Apples to Apples. He was excited; he loves family fun night and has played the game previously. He thought he was one up on all of us. So, after watching Grimm, a must for me. I'm hooked and I could go on and on but that seems like a topic for a whole different post. So anyways, Friday, after Grimm, we cleared the table and recruited as many players as we could to play Apples to Apples.

Needless to say, I think we had fun, as two hours later we were all being silly and arguing why we each thought our card was the best match. Definitely a game where the more the merrier rule applies. There are also variations listed in the rules if you feel the need to mix things up from the usual. You can play these variations: Apple Potpourri, Apple Traders, Apple Turnovers, Apples Eye View, Baked Apples, Big Apples, Crab Apples, 2 for 1 Apples, Infinite Apples and Apple Timers. They also have different variations to buy, such as Apples to Apples Junior or Apples to Apples Jewish Edition, Disney Edition, Bible Edition, so choose which apples appeals most to your family and friends and get in on the fun.
Thanks Jacqueline for this great idea and introducing us to a fun game we can play over and over.
